B.J. McLeod: Business Is Picking Up Nearing End Of Summer Stretch

With the end of the brutal NASCAR XFINITY Series summer stretch nearing its conclusion, driver and owner B.J. McLeod heads to Chicagoland Speedway for Saturday afternoon’s race looking for a solid finish in his Windy City debut.

Saturday’s Drive for Safety 300 holds a significant meaning for 12 drivers as they’ll move onto the inaugural XFINITY Series Chase for the championship and while McLeod won’t be in this year’s version – he’s in his own fight to improve his B.J. McLeod Motorsports team on-track performance, while gaining crucial points that are vital to the overall championship picture.

“Looking forward to Chicagoland Speedway this weekend,” said McLeod, driver of the No. 78 MOMO Ford Mustang. “The guys have been working on this car for a few weeks getting it up to tip-top shape and I can’t wait to get on the track Friday and see what we can maneuver.”

While McLeod will be the first to boast about his team and the long hours his dedicated crew puts towards the race car, the Wauchula, Florida native notes that dedication has been paying off throughout the second half of the season where McLeod has noticeably had more speed on the track allowing for overall better performances.

Noting that short tracks may have been the biggest team improvement overall, McLeod notes that his self-owned team has been focusing lately on their intermediate program knowing it will comprise a hefty amount of the remainder of this year’s schedule.

In a sense Chicagoland can be considered an ultimate test for the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team to make sure they are heading in the right direction for six of the final eight races of 2016.

“These mile and a half tracks can be a huge opportunity for us to gain some points and have some good results,” added McLeod. “It won’t be easy, but we don’t expect it to be. The biggest thing we’re looking for is consistency between now and the end of the season. Being consistent and having solid finishes will give us the momentum we thrive to carry into the off-season and jump start 2017.

“This is the last race of the regular season, so there’s a lot of teams and drivers on different agendas which I think will make for a compelling race. We just need to be there at the end.”

McLeod, who will make his 69th career NASCAR national series start this weekend welcomes back Travis Kvapil to the No. 15 Ford Mustang for Saturday afternoon’s Drive for Safety 300. Kvapil will make his seventh start of 2016 and 12th of his XFINITY career. The 2003 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion hasn’t competed in XFINITY since Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway last month which earned him a series-best 20th place result.

“Really glad to have Travis back this weekend,” added McLeod. “He knows his stuff and has been a big influence in helping make B.J. McLeod Motorsports overall a better program. His last time out at Bristol Motor Speedway was pretty sporty – I’m hoping he gets the chance to flex that muscle once again.”

Joining MOMO this weekend, B.J. McLeod Motorsports is proud to have the support of Baby Black Blues BBQ in Plainfield, Illinois. Featuring the finest ribs, brisket, BBQ and sides in the Chicagoland, Baby Black Blues BBQ has been serving locally since 1998. Created by Ken Faught, Baby Back Blues BBQ has carved out a tasty name for itself, serving everyone and anyone who loves authentic BBQ and tasty side dishes.

“We really appreciate the support of Baby Black Blues BBQ this weekend at Chicagoland,” added McLeod. “Their support means so much to me and without them and our other marketing partners from around the globe – our season would not be possible. Thank you!”
