Adversity Results in 17th Place Finish for Yeley

Misfortune struck early for JJ Yeley at Daytona International Speedway. Yeley qualified 19th to start the Subway Firecracker 250. On lap eight, Yeley was involved in an incident causing left side damage to the No. 44 Zachry Toyota. Through a series of pit stops, the pit crew made repairs that allowed Yeley to remain on the lead lap. Battling damage and the splitter hitting the track surface, Yeley’s determination remained strong while consistently running in the top-15. Under caution on lap 48, Crew Chief Frank Kerr opted to stay out but requested Yeley conserve fuel. After returning to green flag racing, Yeley was shuffled back to 24th. He had advanced to 20th when a timely caution allowed the opportunity to pit for two right side tires and fuel. Returning to the field, Yeley powered to the running in the top-10 of the field. Under a green, white, checker and coming to the finish Yeley was scored in seventh position when he incurred contact causing significant damage. Through teamwork and perseverance, Yeley brought home a 17th place finish for the No. 44 Zachry Toyota.

JJ Yeley: Another race weekend that had potential for a great finish that ended with disappointment. My Zachry crew worked hard all night long, after dragging the splitter and fixing some right side damage we were able to race into the top-10.  The last lap just didn’t go our way. The car behind me locked on my back bumper and pushed me into the 17 car then I got turned into the inside of the race track and ended our shot at finishing in the top-10. Speedway racing is tough and you know things are going to get exciting with a Green, White, Checker.
