Chase Elliott won Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway for Hendrick Motorsports.

Saturday’s win marked Elliott’s first Xfinity series win in eight years and his first win at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Rounding out the top five were Brandon Jones in second, Sammy Smith in third, Sam Mayer in fourth and AJ Allmendinger rounded out the top five.

Justin Allgaier, who won both stages of the race, received a penalty from NASCAR for speeding on pit road prior to the final stage. Allgaier would be able to get inside of the top 10 after restarting in 32nd but would not contend for the win.

Sam Mayer, who was in the lead during the final stage after passing Kyle Busch had a caution that would lose his race lead margin after Ryan Ellis spun out setting the stage for another late-race restart. Elliott would then take control of the race lead with his four fresh tires while all other drivers were still racing on scuffs.

During the restart, Noah Gragson almost wrecked as he was racing on scuffed tires. Allgaier, who had taken two tires tried to pass Gibbs but he got clipped by the No. 20 of Gibbs and went into the wall.

After Allgaier’s wreck, their would be another restart set up Elliott and Mayer on the front row. Elliott had fresh tires while Mayer was racing on scuffs. When the green flag went back out, Elliott would take over the lead until the caution came out once again.

On the final restart of the race, Elliott kept the race lead and would drive by the competition and quickly built up a one second lead over second place. Mayer, who restarted second ended up in fourth after hitting the outside wall on the restart.

Rounding out the top ten were Kyle Busch in sixth, Ryan Sieg in seventh, Josh Williams in eighth, Ty Gibbs in ninth and Noah Gragson in tenth.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Portland International Raceway on Saturday, June 1st at 4:30 p.m. Eastern on FS1.
