NNS: Elliott Takes Talladega Victory

After staying out of the big accidents all day this afternoon, Elliott Sadler captures the victory by leading a total of 40 laps. Today was Sadler’s first Nationwide Series win since 2012 at the Iowa Speedway in August. Also adding to his book, this was his first win at the Talladega Superspeedway and his third top-10 finish in six total races there.

Chris Buescher earned his best career finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series this afternoon as he ran upfront for most of the day. Buescher came into this weekend looking to redeem himself after he failed to qualify earlier this season at Daytona. He started the day from the eighth position and led a lap. He was just 0.125 seconds behind the race winner.

Regan Smith came home with a third place finish after leading a total of 20 laps today. Smith was one of the favorites heading into today, but fell just short due to the lack of help. In four Nationwide Series starts at the 2.66-mile oval, he captured his second top-10 finish today at the track.

Chase Elliott will leave Talladega leading the series standings by one point over Regan Smith. Today’s race winner sits third on the standings list with just three points behind Elliott. Rounding out the fourth and fifth positions are Trevor Bayne and Ty Dillon.

The next race for the NASCAR Nationwide Series will be in two weeks at the Iowa Speedway. Race coverage will start at 1:30 p.m. Et, live on ESPN. The Motor Racing Network will carry the live radio broadcast of that event.
