Additional statement regarding the finish of the season opening Street Stock feature at Kingsport Speedway

“After extensive review of the final lap of Saturday’s Street Stock feature, we are making the following clarifications and corrections to the finishing order. After the white flag is displayed, the next flag ends the race. In this case, the next flag was the yellow flag (caution). The field is to immediately slow down, hold position, and maintain a reasonable pace. The event is not over until the cars that are still under power have crossed the start/finish line under a reasonable pace.

“In this particular incident, the No. 6 of Chris Tunnell was at the end of the backstretch and entering turn three when the caution was displayed. At this moment, the field was frozen and cars were to slow to a reasonable speed and cross the start/finish line. However, the No. 40 of Royce Peters and No. 11 of Sam Hurd did not slow and continued to race, becoming involved in a separate incident. The No. 11 continued on with extensive damage and crossed the start/finish line. Due to the No. 11 not slowing to a reasonable speed, he was penalized for rough driving and placed at the rear of the field. Also taking place was the incident between the No. 6 and No. 74 (Jared Broadbent) spinning in turn four.

“The No. 24 of Dennis Deese was the next lead-lap car to cross the start/finish line. With the No. 24 being the only car to be able to hold position and maintain a reasonable speed, he has been declared the winner.

“Concerning the sorting of the remainder of the finishing order, the blend rule came into play because all lead-lap except for the No. 24 were unable to maintain a reasonable speed. The No. 6, after spinning, was the next car to cross the start/finish line followed by the Nos. 40 and 74.

“We hope this has cleared up any confusion. The updated race results are below.”
