Kaitlyn Bailey named Darlington Raceway’s Lady in Black

The votes have been tallied and local Darlington, S.C. native Kaitlyn Bailey has been selected as Darlington Raceway’s next “Lady in Black”.

Bailey, as the “Lady in Black” will serve as the face of Darlington Raceway throughout 2014. She will represent the track at various community and media events, parties and the annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Bojangles’ Southern 500 race weekend on April 11-12, 2014.

Bailey will play an integral part in the track’s efforts to focus on the fans and serve as an ambassador in the community.

“We’re excited to have Kaitlyn Bailey serve as our Lady in Black,” Darlington Raceway President Chip Wile said. “We had some really great candidates apply, and it’s unfortunate we could only have one winner, as they all would have been great representatives of this great raceway. Kaitlyn has a tremendous following based on the amount of votes she received and it’s a bonus that she hails from the city of Darlington!”

Bailey was selected from over 50 candidates that submitted an online application for the contest back in the fall. Five finalists were introduced at the track’s inaugural Speed & Feed BBQ Cook-Off and Car Show presented by Piggly Wiggly event on Nov. 8-9, 2013, which drew thousands of fans to the track Too Tough to Tame.

“I’ve grown up and lived in Darlington for most of my life so I understand the importance of what this Lady in Black position means to the track and community,” Bailey said. “I can’t wait to get started and represent the track at events throughout the year. It will be a great experience.”

Bailey is a 2009 graduate of Mayo High School in Darlington and will receive her political science degree in May from the University of South Carolina.
