Kyle Weatherman Mason Mitchell Motorsports Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 Post Race Report

Kyle Weatherman and Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) carried their momentum over from the Fairgrounds Speedway two weeks ago to the Salem Speedway this weekend, as the No. 78 team earned a third-place finish in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200.

Weatherman place the No. 78 inside the top-five all afternoon long. During the days longest green flag run of 107 laps Weatherman worked his way up to the runner-up position. Leader Christian Eckes who was on a different pit-strategy put Weatherman a lap down at lap 130. The No. 78 team elected to make a green flag pit-stop for four General Tires. Unfortunately, while the team was on a pit-road the afternoon’s final caution waved for a two-car incident.

The caution trapped the No. 78 team two laps down in the fifth position. Once the race resumed Weatherman worked his way up to the third position and stormed by leader Dalton Sargeant to earn one lap back. Weatherman drove back around the field and almost made up his second lap before the checkered flag waved. Weatherman crossed the stripe in the third spot. The finish marked his fifth top-five finish at the historic half-mile track. It also marked the third top-five finish for MMM at Salem. MMM’s now earned back-to-back podium finishes.

Weatherman will enter Friday evenings General Tire 200 at the Talladega Superspeedway tied for second in driver points 15 behind leader Austin Theriault.

MMM is the defending winner of the General Tire 200 at the Talladega Superspeedway.

Quotes from Kyle Weatherman

“This car was a rocket ship this weekend. From the time, we unloaded until the checkered flag waved we had a great car. During the first run we just were pacing ourselves to be in a good position for the end of the race and we were sitting in second.

Unfortunately, we had an ill-timed caution when we were on pit-road that trapped us two laps down. We gained one of those laps back the old-fashioned race.

We just need a little racing luck right now. These guys at MMM have prepared fast cars every single week. I’m really looking forward to carrying our momentum into Talladega on Friday.”

Quotes from Crew Chief Kevin Reed

“The weekend had its ups and downs with the Weather and rushed schedule. We unloaded for practice in good shape from the test and made the car better with short run and long run speed.

Kyle continued to prove his ability to drive a race car at any track we take him to. The Mason Mitchell Motorsports guys are all in right now making 11 quality runs and turning 54 laps in practice and giving Kyle the opportunity to have all the track time needed to steer us to be a threat to win on any given week.

I couldn’t be prouder of the effort of everyone at Mason Mitchell Motorsports right now. We need improve on few things but most of all we just need some racing luck.”
