ARCA: Chase Briscoe Wins at Kansas, Claims Driver Championship

Chase Briscoe will leave Kansas Speedway victorious in his No. 77 Big Tine Ford for Cunningham Motorsports. Briscoe captured his sixth victory of the season and will leave with the 2016 ARCA Racing Series championship. Briscoe would have had also left with the SCOTT Rookie of the Year award but ARCA rules state that a rookie can only win the championship if they lead in both categories.

“It’s so cool to finally reward Cunningham Motorsports with their first championship,” Briscoe told ARCARacing.com. “They’ve been in this sport for so long. The guys on this team work so hard…a lot of sweat and tears. They earned every bit of this championship. Really great to get Big Tine their first ever championship in racing.”

Briscoe ended the season with six poles, 14 top five and 18 top 10 finishes throughout the season.

Austin Cindric took his No. 99 Menards Ford to a runner-up finish. The young driver entered the Kansas Speedway weekend with momentum after parking his car in victory lane at Kentucky Speedway the last time out.

“It was up and down and back again for us tonight,” Cindric told ARCARacing.com. “We worked our way from the back and then we got a little tangled up on that restart. I had the choice of dumping my teammate or getting out of it. But, all’s well that ends well. I had a ton of fun racing these guys. It was great to get Menards a good night. ARCA’s a great place to learn and provided a great platform for me.”

Cindric, making only his sixth career ARCA Racing Series start, captured his third top two finish of the season. The 17-year old now holds one victory, four top five and five top 10 finishes.

Michael Self rounded out the top three in the No. 28 Sinclair Oil Chevrolet. Self had some work to do as he started the night in 26th and wasn’t long before he found himself running in the top 10. It was his first time racing in the series since 2014 at Millville.

Noah Gragson came into the day as one of the favorites behind the wheel of the No. 15 Speed Vegas – Alert ID Toyota. Gragson earned his first career top five finish in the ARCA Racing Series by capturing the fifth spot.

Kyle Weatherman, Nick Higdon, Myatt Snider and others were involved in a vicious crash that occurred on lap 49. Weatherman had to be taken to a local hospital for further evaluation and was later released. Weatherman was sore upon his release and had no broken bones.

“We got four-wide down there, and they just took the air off of us and the car came around,” said Snider on FS1. “I’m fine, but I feel bad for all those guys that got tore up.”

The ARCA Racing Series will return in February at Daytona International Speedway. Stay tuned for details all throughout the winter for television information.
