NXS: Erik Jones Captures Pole at Iowa Speedway

Erik Jones will start on the pole for the ninth time of his career in the NASCAR XFINITY Series on Sunday afternoon at Iowa Speedway. Jones posted a 23.204, 135.752 mph. around the 0.75-mile oval located just outside of Des Moines, Iowa. Jones enters the event looking to capture his third win of the season.

Daniel Suarez will start right beside Jones in the No. 19 ARRIS Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing. Suarez, who went to victory lane last Saturday at Michigan International Speedway, has started all 14 races in 2016 inside the top 10. The young driver from Mexico holds one victory, five top five and 11 top 10 finishes through 2016 thus far.

Sam Hornish Jr. rounded out the top three and gave Joe Gibbs Racing the top three sweep. Hornish will make his first XFINITY Series start since last season at Texas Motor Speedway with Biagi DenBeste Racing. The Ohio born driver went to victory lane at Iowa Speedway in 2014 with Joe Gibbs.

Ben Kennedy, who makes his XFINITY Series debut on Sunday with Richard Childress Racing, will roll from the 10th starting spot. Kennedy holds seven top five and 18 top 10 finishes through 57 Camping World Truck Series starts. He too is looking for his first career NASCAR national series win.

One driver did not make the show for Sunday’s race at Iowa Speedway as 41 drivers appeared on the entry list. That would be the No. 77 Chevrolet of Claire Decker. All three rounds went clean and green with no on-track incidents.

FOX Sports 1 will have live coverage of the race on Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET. The Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM channel 90 will have the live radio broadcast.
