NXS: Hamlin Captures Bristol Motor Speedway Pole

Denny Hamlin will start on the pole at the Bristol Motor Speedway for the Food City 300 on Friday. Hamlin posted a time of 15.121 seconds, 126.896 mph. in the final round of qualifying. The Virginia native earned his 19th career pole by 0.070 seconds over his teammate Kyle Busch.

Busch, a seven-time winner at Bristol in the XFINITY Series, will take the green flag right beside Hamlin. Busch turned his lap of 15.191 seconds, 126.312 mph. on his first of three trips around the track. The qualifying effort will mark his third top five start of the year.

Kevin Harvick will start the Food City 300 in the third-place position. Harvick posted a quick time of 15.226 seconds, 126.021 mph. on his first of two laps in the final round. The California native has five victories, 15 top five and 22 top 10 finishes at the small track.

Series point’s leader Chris Buescher will start the 300-lap race in fifth. Ty Dillon, who comes into the weekend 24 points behind Buescher, will take the green flag in 11th. Chase Elliott will start the race in the 10th spot.

There were no incidents in the three rounds of qualifying.

Nobody will go home as 40 drivers are on the entry list.
