NNS: Logano Earns Texas Motor Speedway Pole

After leading each of the three rounds in qualifying, Joey Logano claimed the pole for Saturday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge 300 at the Texas Motor Speedway. Logano, who earned his 26th career Nationwide Series pole, posted a time of 28.880 seconds, 186.981 mph.

Trevor Bayne will start inside the top-10 Saturday for the 12th time of the season. Bayne posted the runner-up fastest time with a 28.967 seconds, 186.419 mph. The 23-year-old hopes that this will translate into the first victory of 2014.

Austin Dillon, who is making his first Nationwide Series start of the season, will roll from the third starting spot. Dillon posted his fast time of 29.011 seconds, 186.136 mph. right when the session begun. The 2013 Nationwide Series champion hopes to capture his third career win in the series.

Kyle Busch comes into the event as one of the favorites to grab the victory. Busch, who won the truck race Friday evening and hopes to sweep the weekend, will start from the sixth starting spot.

Chase Elliott, who comes into the Texas Motor Speedway with the Nationwide Series points lead, will start the afternoon from 11th. Elliott leads the standings by 42 points over Regan Smith. Smith will start the race from ninth.

Kyle Larson and Carlos Contreras wasn’t able to post a time after their cars didn’t pass technical inspection. Both drivers, with three going home, still made the field and will have to come from the rear.

Derrike Cope, Mike Harmon and Morgan Shepherd was the three drivers who did not make the race.
