Kyle Larson won Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway. Larson took over the points lead with his third win of the season.

For Larson, this marks his 26th Cup series win of his career.

Earlier in the week, Larson was granted a playoff waiver by NASCAR for missing the Coca-Cola 600 when he attempted the Indy 500 and Coke 600 double but never had the opportunity to take to the track in Charlotte as weather came as he arrived to Charlotte from Indianapolis.

With his win on Sunday, Larson now has a 14 point lead over teammate Chase Elliott in the point standings.

Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway produced eight cautions which was just one away from the record number of cautions.

Rounding out the top five were Michael McDowell in second, Chris Buescher in third, Chase Elliott in fourth and Ross Chastain in fifth.

Martin Truex Jr., who was running second when the white flag waved ran out of fuel on on the final turn and would slowly cross the start-finish line finishing 27th.

Kyle Busch also had misfortunes on the last lap of the race while running in the fifth position. Busch would get spun out by Ross Chastain and would finish 12th.

Denny Hamlin’s day came to an end early on Lap 2 when his engine blew and would finish last in the 38th position. In 2023, Hamlin also finished last.

Rounding out the top ten were AJ Allmendinger in sixth, Ryan Blaney in seventh, Tyler Reddick in eighth, Christopher Bell in ninth and Todd Gilliland in tenth.

The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Iowa Raceway next Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern on USA Network.
