NSCS: Edwards Captures 5-hour Energy 301 Pole

Carl Edwards captured the pole for Sunday’s 5-hour Energy 301 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Friday afternoon. Edwards, who is driving the No. 19 Sport Clips Toyota this weekend, posted a lap of 28.179 seconds, 135.164 mph. in the final round of knockout qualifying. It marks the first pole of the season for the Missouri native.

Starting right beside Edwards on Sunday will be Joey Logano in the No. 22 Ford. Logano comes into the weekend with momentum after scoring the win last September at the 1.058-mile oval. Logano posted a time of 28.209 seconds, 135.021 mph. on his second of three laps around the track. He was 0.030 seconds slower than Edwards.

David Ragan tied Logano with a time of 28.209 seconds, 135.201 mph. in the final round. Logano will get the second spot as the No. 22 Ford is higher in the owner point’s standings. The Georgia native will make his second start of the season from inside the top five.

Reed Sorenson came into the weekend needing to qualify 36th or better. Sorenson did not do that and therefore will go home.

Kyle Busch continues to ride a wave of momentum going into New Hampshire on Sunday. Busch has brought home the win in two of the last three races. The Las Vegas native will start in fourth on Sunday. Denny Hamlin, who is a teammate to Busch, will start right behind in fifth.
