MENCS: Chase Elliott Wins Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway

Chase Elliott won the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway on Sunday behind the wheel of his No. 9 Mtn. Dew Chevrolet by leading 44 of the 267 circuits. Elliott led the final 44 laps to earn his third win of the season. The Georgia native has 11 top five and 18 top 10 finishes going into Martinsville Speedway next week.

Kyle Busch sat second on the leaderboard when the checkered flag fell at the 1.5-mile Kansas oval. Busch, looking to grab his eighth victory of 2018, started seventh on the leaderboard and sat fourth at the end of stage one. When stage two ended, the Las Vegas native sat fifth.

Elliott finished 10th in stage one and fourth in stage two and will leave Kansas holding three top 10 finishes in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series through five starts there.

Kyle Larson rounded out the top three finishers in the No. 42 Chevrolet. Larson had some digging to do after qualifying 27th on the starting grid after crashing in practice earlier in the weekend. The California native now has 10 top five and 17 top 10 finishes after race 32.

Erik Jones and last year’s winner at Kansas Speedway Martin Truex Jr. rounded out the top five.

Rest of the top 10 finishers included Brad Keselowski, Ryan Blaney, stage one winner Joey Logano, Alex Bowman and Aric Almirola.

Kevin Harvick looked strong after winning stage two and leading 76 circuits until a speeding penalty late in the running. Harvick gained some ground on the field and will take home a 12th-place finish.

Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski, who led the field for 26 laps, Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman were all eliminated from NASCAR’s Playoffs. Advancing will be Elliott, Aric Almirola, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr., Clint Bowyer and Kurt Busch.

Only one caution flag flew for an on-track incident involving William Byron for blowing an engine on lap 56. The other two yellow flags involved the end of stages one and two.

The next race for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will be at Martinsville Speedway on October 28. The First Data 500 will air live on NBCSN and MRN radio at 2:30 p.m. ET.
