An accident in the second half of the race left Ross Chastain with a 29th-place finish in Saturday’s VFW Sports Clips Help A Hero 200 Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway.
On lap 103 (of 147), Chastain was an innocent victim of a four-car turn-four crash that began when Kyle Larson failed to make the entrance to pit road and spun on the inside of the track.
“There was nothing I could do,” said Chastain, whose South Carolina Education Lottery Chevrolet suffered front-end damage. “It happened all of a sudden and my lane was blocked, and we were out of it. Had a good car, too. It’s unfortunate.”
Chastain, who raced as high as 13th, remained 15th in Xfinity driver points with two races remaining in the regular season.
