NSCS: Joey Logano Claims Pure Michigan 400 Pole

Joey Logano will start on the pole for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Logano posted a 35.697, 201.698 mph. lap around the 2.0-mile oval for his 17th career pole in the Sprint Cup Series. The native of Connecticut will go after his third win at the facility.

Logano started on the pole at Michigan back in June and went on to score his second win there. He dominated the 200-lap event by leading 138 laps in his No. 22 Shell Penzoil Ford. He also started on the pole and won there back in the fall of 2013.

Jimmie Johnson will start right beside Logano in the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet. Johnson posted a 35.728, 201.523 mph. when the final round of qualifying concluded. The Lowe’s Chevrolet team led round one and ended round two in fifth. The California native enters the weekend looking to capture his third win of the year.

Rounding out the top three was Denny Hamlin in the No. 11 FedEx Toyota Camry. Hamlin posted a 35.747, 201.416 mph. in the final round of qualifying. The Virginia native ended round one sitting second and round two sitting fourth. Like Johnson, Hamlin enters the weekend looking to capture his third victory of 2016.

Kevin Harvick, who won last weekend’s race at Bristol, will roll from the fourth starting spot. Harvick, after finishing round one in 15th and sixth in round two, will try to use the fourth starting spot as momentum to capture his third win of the year. He posted a 35.753, 201.382.

Alex Bowman, who is subbing for Dale Earnhardt Jr., will start sixth in the No. 88 Chevrolet. Bowman posted a 35.784, 201.207 mph. lap around the two-mile oval.
