Garrett Smithley ran with the front drafting pack on the way to a 21st-place finish in Saturday’s Sparks Energy 300 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Smithley and his JD Motorsports with Gary Keller teammates, Harrison Rhodes and Ross Chastain, ran together in a tight drafting group much of the day.
Along the way, Smithley led the 52nd of 113 laps.
“We stayed out of trouble and ran with the fast cars,” Smithley said. “If you can do that, you can make some noise at Talladega. All of the JD Motorsports cars did well.”
