Contact Relegates Yeley to 20th Place Finish

JJ Yeley, driver of the No. 44 Zachry Toyota, qualified 17th to start the American Ethanol E15 250 NASCAR XFINITY Series race. Setting a solid pace and quickly advancing to 11th, Yeley communicated the handling was snug in the center and free on exit. Crew Chief Frank Kerr and the No. 44 team utilized the competition caution on lap 40 to make adjustments to the Zachry Toyota. Returning to the field in the 14th position, Yeley focused on running the high groove as the car became stronger with long green flag runs. Running 12th, Yeley and a fellow competitor made contact and the No. 44 sustained right side and significant splitter damage. After a series of pit stops to assess and repair damage, the Zachry Toyota became tight and harder to turn in the center. Making every effort to gain positions, Yeley made the most of a challenging day and took the checkers with a 20th place finish at Iowa Speedway.

JJ Yeley:  “A day of potential ended with an ok Father’s Day finish. The entire crew worked very hard this weekend to give me a great Zachry Toyota here in Iowa. I didn’t have the best car on fresh tires but it really came on strong on long runs, especially running the high groove. You had to be strategic and aggressive with your passes. If you couldn’t make your pass, you would easily lose 2-3 positions trying. We got caught up in a racing incident coming off turn 4 that didn’t go our way and cost us a better finish.”
