American Diabetes Association Youth Ambassador Sadie Davis to ‘Ride with Ryan’

American Diabetes Association® Youth Ambassador Sadie Davis will ride along with Roush Fenway Racing driver Ryan Reed during Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Dover International Speedway. The Georgetown, Del. native will have her name featured on a decal above the passenger-side window on the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes American Diabetes Ford Mustang.

Davis was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 10, nearly three years ago. The 12-year-old is an advocate for everyone living with diabetes. Over the summer, she met with legislators in D.C. to encourage continued diabetes research funding and was recognized for her work by the Delaware Legislature. Davis has also spoken at various events to advocate for more research funding with her legislatures and to spread diabetes awareness with her community at large.

Davis lives by the motto, “Diabetes makes everything I do a little bit harder, but not impossible!”

The active seventh-grader hasn’t let her diagnosis prevent her from exceling at school or enjoying her hobbies. She is an Honor Roll Student and co-captain of her school’s field hockey team. She also enjoys community theater acting, kayaking, hiking, reading and hanging out with her friends and family.

“Sadie’s willingness to stand up for the diabetes community by visiting with members of Congress is truly inspirational,” said Reed. “Not only is she an example of how diabetes doesn’t have to control your life, but she has also set out to make sure everyone living with diabetes has the same opportunities. I’m so excited to have her riding along on the No. 16 Lilly Diabetes American Diabetes Association Ford Mustang this weekend at Dover and hope to make her proud!”

Ryan Reed and the ‘Riding with Ryan’ program roll into Dover International Speedway this weekend for the second time this season. Reed finished 11th after starting 17th when the NASCAR XFINITY Series visited the track back in May.
