John Wes Townley Texas Rewind/Bristol Preview

Activities for Friday night’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Xfinity Series kicked off that afternoon and saw John Wes Townley flex the muscle of his No. 25 Zaxby’s Chevrolet when he posted the sixth-fastest lap during first round qualifying at the 1.5 mile oval.

After the final lap was turned during the three-round format to determine the starting lineup, Townley wound up a respectable 15th in a field stocked with Sprint Cup drivers and teams affiliated with Cup organizations.

When the green flag waved on the 200 lap affair, Townley quickly settled into a pattern that would see him run 12th to 19th during the popular night race at TMS.

The Watkinsville, Ga. native managed to surge as high as third in the running order near the halfway point of the event as the field cycled though green flag pit stops.

When the checkered flag waved over the 40-car field, Townley found himself in 17th and on the lead lap on the final scoring rundown, just ahead of race winner Erik Jones.

“Our Athenian Motorsports team did a great job all weekend,” Townley said. “We were a little loose in the race and that probably cost me some speed. But overall, we’re gaining on it and getting better each week.”

With the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series idle until they visit Kanas Speedway on May 8th, Townley will be back behind the wheel of the No. 25 Zaxby’s Camaro again this week when the Xfinity Series visits the lightning-fast Bristol Motor Speedway in northeast Tennessee.

“I’ve raced many, many times at Bristol and really enjoy racing there,” Townley said. “Things happen really fast there. We’ll have to be on our toes to bring our Zaxby’s Chevrolet home with a good finish.”

The Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 at Bristol is scheduled to start shortly after 1:30 p.m. eastern on Saturday April 18th and will be televised live on Fox Sports 1.
