Sam Mayer, who drives the No. 1 Chevy Camaro for JR Motorsports, got the victory at the Texas Motor Speedway during Saturday’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300; but it didn’t come without a fight.

“That’s the last guy you want to beat in a finish like that,” Mayer quoted in the media center. “I have so much respect for Ryan Sieg and the Sieg racing organization. He did everything right and did everything perfectly, but I’m proud of this team and JR Motorsports and looking forward to many more wins with this team in the future.”

Ryan Sieg was leading the last 10 laps after starting in the front brown in the final restart, looking to write an underdog story and score his first victory. But on the last lap, Mayer showed he wasn’t just coasting to the finish, and beat out Sieg by 0.002 seconds at the start finish line.

Sieg, while disappointed the win didn’t come home with him at the end of the day, recognizes this finish as a statement on how far RSS Racing has come over the years.

“It’s definitely a reward to show we can do it,” stated Sieg. You just have to have the right stuff. Finally, we’ve got there. We got the sponsorships; we’ve got four behind us. So, we have to get that going and to keep it going. We have more to come.”

The next race the NASCAR Xfinity Series will run is next Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway, which will host the Ag-Pro 300. That race will be carried live on FS1, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
