This time, Landon Cassill didn’t have a chance to experiment with his road-racing skills.
Only five laps into Saturday’s Johnsonville Sausage 250 Nationwide Series race at Road America, Cassill ran into trouble. A failed piston on his JD Motorsports with Gary Keller Chevrolet sent Cassill to the garage area for good, nailing the team with a 39th-place finish.
Cassill had qualified 30th, one position in front of teammate Mike Wallace on the difficult 4.048-mile course, the longest Nationwide teams face all season. Although Wallace eventually climbed to 13th place, Cassill, in the Flex Seal Chevrolet, never got a shot at making progress.
AJ Allmendinger won the race, scoring his first victory in the series. Justin Allgaier and Parker Kligerman followed.
The series races next at Kentucky Speedway June 28.
