Cassill relies on experience at MIS

Landon Cassill hasn’t turned a lap in a Nationwide Series car at Michigan International Speedway, but that doesn’t mean he’ll go into Saturday’s Alliance Truck Parts 250 Nationwide race at the track as a raw rookie.

Cassill has raced six times in the Sprint Cup Series at MIS and has logged more then 1,800 miles on the track.

MIS has played a significant role in Cassill’s brief NASCAR career. He made his first Sprint Cup start at the track in 2010, and his best Cup finish – a 12th – was scored at the track in 2011.

Cassill returns to the cockpit of the JD Motorsports with Gary Keller No. 4 Chevrolet this weekend. The team will be flying the Flex Seal colors again.

“I like the new pavement at Michigan,” Cassill said. “It’s fast, and it’s fun. Hopefully, we can put together another clean, competitive run.”

Practice for the Alliance Truck Parts 250 is scheduled at 1:10 p.m. Friday. Qualifying is set for 10:35 a.m. Saturday, with the race scheduled for a 2:15 p.m. green flag.
