“I was saddened last night to hear of the passing of David Pearson, undoubtedly one of the greatest drivers our sport has ever seen. While he was known for his prowess on the superspeedways, he ran here at Martinsville twice a year and it was always special to me to see that Wood Brothers 21 up front on a short track. His win here in 1973 is one I’ll always remember. My thoughts and prayers are with the Pearson family during this difficult time.”
