Kevin Harvick wins Coors Light pole for Ford Ecoboot 400

Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 4 Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing, won the Coors Light Pole for Sunday’s Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway with a lap of 30.399 seconds, 177.637 mph.

Harvick earned his second pole and 20th top-10 start in the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, and his first pole in 16 races at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Harvick celebrated his 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway after winning the 2014 Ford EcoBoost 400. Harvick has seven top-5 and 13 top-10 finishes in 15 starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

“That’s awesome.  I didn’t know if we had a chance at the pole with as fast as the No. 24 (Chase Elliott) had been,” Harvick said. “But I knew if we could just run the same speed every round, that is half the battle because you never know how much it is going to slow down for everybody else, and it doesn’t take much to make a mistake.”

The Championship 4 drivers – Joey Logano, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch – will be starting within the top 15 for Sunday’s championship finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Busch will start the highest of the four in the ninth position and Edwards will join him in Row 5 in the 10th position. Logano (13th) and Jimmie Johnson (14th) will both start side-by-side in Row 7.

“I was feeling a little bit of pressure out there for qualifying,” Edwards said. “You know how important it is and you want to do well, but that’s over with, and now we just get ready to go racing.  But I mean, we’re having fun with it.”

“It was a decent qualifying effort, I guess, if you consider the big picture of where we’re all at,” Busch said. “We are all pretty tight.  Throw a blanket over each other, we’re all right there.”

The Ford EcoBoost 400 championship race, which will air on NBC and MRN Radio/Sirius XM, will start at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, November 20. The race is officially sold out in grandstand seating.
