Homestead Miami Speedway awards grants to six local charities

Homestead-Miami Speedway celebrates the tradition of giving back to the South Florida community through various non-profit organizations. For the fourth consecutive year, “Driving for a Cause,” Homestead-Miami Speedway’s charitable outreach program, will be awarding grants to local charities in the South Florida community. This year, more than $40,000 in grants will be donated to six local charities that support youth development and non-profit efforts. The charities will be honored during pre-race ceremonies prior to the Ford EcoBoost 400 on Sunday, November 20.

The grant winners are:

–       A Chance for Therapy – A program helping children who have incurable neurological disabilities in Miami-Dade County. These are children who are uninsured or underinsured, and the funds help them gain access to vital therapies – speech, occupational and physical.

–       Camillus House – The Youth Housing Initiative provides emergency and transitional housing for youth who are homeless and/or emerging from the foster care system. The goal is to help affected youth, ages 16 -24, become self-sufficient and independent through emergency, transitional housing.

–       FIU Foundation Formula SAE – A student-run organization that focuses on applying engineering principles learned in the classroom to creating an open cockpit racecar. These students then give back by taking their “Engineers on Wheels” campaign to South Florida schools grades K-12, which helps teach the youth about STEM programs.

–       Hispanic Business Initiative Fund – The fund benefits young entrepreneurs and low-to-moderate income level families to work on developing a solid foundation for opening up a business

–       Lauren’s Kids – To help spread the “Safer, Smarter Schools” abuse prevention curriculum to more children in the community by using community-based education through community/ neighborhood organizations

–       Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services – The organization provides an emergency shelter for more than 1,000 children who are runaway, at risk, neglected, abandoned, abused, truant and/or in foster care

In addition to this year’s charitable contributions from Driving for a Cause, Homestead-Miami Speedway donates more than $320,000 annually to dozens of South Florida organizations, including track rental opportunities throughout the year, an annual car wash, food drive, holiday toy drive and much more.
