Fun Fest, Racing collide Friday night at Kingsport Speedway

Fun Fest, Kingsport’s annual summer festival, kicks off this Friday, July 15.

And we’re bringing it to the races.

Fun Fest Goes to the Races takes the excitement and fun of the eight day festival just up the road to Kingsport Speedway for a full night of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing.

“We are so excited for the return of the Fun Fest race,” said Karen Tunnell, general manager of Kingsport Speedway. “This event was a staple when the facility was open in the early 2000s and it’s great to have it back on the schedule.”

The Late Model Stock Car division headlines the night with twin 35-lap features. Street Stock, Pure 4, Mod 4, Pure Street and Legend Cars are also on tap.

Friday’s event also features an action-packed, grass slinging lawn mower race for church pastors. Pastors wishing to take on “The Concrete Jungle” should bring their own riding mowers for the event.

Friday’s race is going to be a great way to kick off Fun Fest,” added Tunnell. “We can’t wait to see everyone.”

Grandstand gates open at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, qualifying begins at 7 p.m. and racing gets underway at 8 p.m. Adult admission is $10 and children 12-and-under are admitted free. Tier parking is available atop the hill in turns three and four for $10 per vehicle plus admission.
