VIR Hosts Charity Laps Event Benefitting Victory Junction

VIRginia International Raceway is hosting an Open House and Charity Laps event to benefit Victory Junction Friday, March 25. Victory Junction is a nonprofit that enriches the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illness by providing life-changing camp experiences in a medically sound environment, at no cost to the camper or their family.

Late pro driver Adam Petty, the grandson of racing legend Richard Petty, inspired his family to build Victory Junction in honor of his memory after he died in a tragic racing accident. His brother, Austin Petty, will be a special guest at the event, offering ride-alongs for a donation of $45 – Adam ’s racecar number.

Additionally, during the Spring Open House and Charity Laps event, community members will have other ways to experience one of the top six road courses in North America for themselves. People can drive their own cars on VIR’s historic 3.27-mile full course for 15 minutes with a donation of just $25, or get in the passenger seat for ride-alongs in high-speed cars such as VIR’s own NISSAN GT-R, vehicles provided by the BMW Performance Center and others, for a $15 donation. All proceeds benefit Victory Junction.

As an addition to the event this year, the onsite Oak Tree Tavern will be offering free appetizers from 4 to 6 p.m. with no purchase necessary, including popular bites such as the buffalo style cauliflower, crispy Carolina shrimp, ahi tuna nachos and more. Complimentary tastings of two craft beers on tap will also be provided.

“Victory Junction provides truly incredible experiences for youth with serious illnesses and we are honored to be able to support them through this event for our fourth consecutive year,” said Connie Nyholm, owner and CEO of VIR. “It will be an exciting day where community members and racing fans can live out their high-speed dreams while supporting a great cause, and also enjoy new food specials at the Tavern, complimentary amenities and more family fun.”

Complimentary kart track access will be available for all to enjoy throughout the family-friendly event. Additional activities include a car show display by the General Greene Antique Auto Club and photo opportunities with singer Taylor Swift’s pink truck, which she generously donated to Victory Junction on her birthday a few years ago. Gates open to the public at 8 a.m. and will close at 4 p.m. No advanced reservations are required.

The Spring Open House and Charity Laps event kicks off a busy season for VIR that includes the Biscuitville 125 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East with ChampTruck, Mid-Atlantic MotoAmerica Superbike Championship and fan-favorite IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
