Johnson Visits Pediatric Patients in Kansas

When a six-time NASCAR champion stops by for a visit, it’s exciting. But when he brings ice cream, it turns into a party.

Jimmie Johnson stopped by the  University of Kansas Hospital on Tuesday night to visit patients in the pediatric unit, where he passed out die casts of his No. 48, hats and other gear, and then offered the patients ice cream, courtesy of Blue Bunny.

“I wish I was here and there weren’t any kids in the hospital, but I’m happy to come by and visit and put some smiles on faces,” said Johnson.

After spending time with a group of patients, Johnson went room to room to visit those patients who were unable to leave their rooms. He even had Kansas Speedway President Patrick Warren assisting him with the ice cream.

Johnson was in town to participate in this week’s Goodyear Tire Test on Monday and Tuesday and NASCAR’s open test today.

“From what I’ve experienced the last couple of days on track, the old Kansas is coming back in,” said Johnson. “Last spring we raced from the yellow line to the wall and that’s what we look for. The track is aging really well.”
