Bruton Smith and Dave Ramsey ignite night racing opening ceremonies

While fans are counting down the hours to the anticipated Bristol Blackout Powered by Chevrolet at this evening’s IRWIN Tools Night Race, there’s much to look forward to before the start of the 500-lap battle at the World’s Fastest Half Mile.

  • As the leading vote getter of the 2016 NASCAR Hall of Fame class, motorsports visionary Bruton Smith will say the most famous words in racing, “Drivers, start your engines!” tonight at his favorite short track, Bristol Motor Speedway. The Speedway Motorsports Inc. (SMI) Executive Chairman is more than just a businessman, having founded Speedway Children’s Charities and raised more than $9 million dollars for local children in need.
  • Tennessee native and nationally syndicated radio show host Dave Ramsey will try his hand at something other than writing another New York Times best seller—tonight, Ramsey will wave the green flag to begin the 266.5 mile race.
  • The evening’s national anthem will be performed by children from Motor Racing Outreach, and capped with a flyover from four F-18 Hornets from Marine Attack Squadron 122, based out of the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, S.C.
  • Dr. Raleigh Washington, president and CEO of Promise Keepers and One Message, as well as the founder and Pastor Emeritus of Rock of Our Salvation Evangelical Free Church in Chicago, Ill. will give the invocation for the evening’s premier event.
