Wind Creek Casino & Hotel Wetumpka to Sponsor NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Qualifying Night & USCS Sprint Car Shootout at Atlanta

Wind Creek Casino & Hotel Wetumpka will serve as the title sponsor of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying and the USCS Sprint Car Shootout on Aug. 29 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Wind Creek Casino & Hotel Wetumpka Qualifying Night will kick off a weekend of NASCAR night racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

“This is a really important sponsorship for us,” noted Jay Dorris, President of WInd Creek Hospitality, which operates Wind Creek Wetumpka and several other entertainment properties in Alabama and Florida. “Our customers love NASCAR, the sport has deep roots in our State, and we are the closest casino to the Atlanta Motor Speedway. It is a natural partnership that we think will provide a lot of great entertainment.”

Friday’s event will feature the debut of NASCAR’s thrilling new “knock-out” qualifying format at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The starting order for the Aug. 31 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series night race will be set following three successive knock-out qualifying sessions. The fastest 24 cars in the opening session will advance to the second round with the 12 quickest cars advancing to the final round. The results from the final round will determine the Pole winner and the subsequent 11 starting positions.

Track activities on Aug. 29 will also include the return of the winged sprint cars of the United Sprint Car Series in the Wind Creek Casino & Hotel Wetumpka Sprint Car Shootout. Drivers will battle on the Quarter-Mile “Thunder Ring” located on Atlanta Motor Speedway’s front stretch in the 50-lap event. JoJo Helberg from Santa Rosa, California won last year’s race.

The United Sprint Car Series utilizes both paved and dirt tracks throughout the series to determine a season champion. At 1,300 pounds and over 700 horsepower, winged sprint cars are among the fastest and most powerful short-track cars. Last year, speeds exceeded 100 mph at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The Wind Creek Casino & Hotel Wetumpka Sprint Car Shootout will serve as the finale of the United Sprint Car Series’ eight-event “Road to Atlanta” Tour in addition to including drivers from the USCS Mid-South and Southern Thunder Tours to create a star-studded field on Labor Day Weekend.

Admission for Wind Creek Casino & Hotel Wetumpka Qualifying Night and Sprint Car Shootout is $20 per person and all kids 12 & under are admitted free into the grandstands when accompanied by an adult ticket.
