Roa wins again at Canyon – debuts new USAC/CRA ride this Saturday

Brody Roa capped a week that was anything but normal when he led every inch of the way to win the USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series race last Saturday at Arizona’s Canyon Speedway Park.   This Saturday night at the Glenn Howard Memorial USAC/CRA race at Perris Auto Speedway, Roa will make his debut in the Dwight Cheney #42.

With seasonal monsoons baring down on the Peoria, Arizona dirt oval last week, officials canceled hot laps and went straight into qualifying.  Behind the wheel of Tanner Grau’s #34, Roa timed in sixth quick in the 17-car field with a best lap of 14.82.  He backed that up with a third-place finish in his 10-lap heat race and that put him on the pole for the main event.

Roa jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and led the entire 30-lap distance.  However, the win was anything but easy.  The second-place car kept the heat on all the way looking for the slightest bobble that never came.  In addition, Roa and his pursuer both had to bob and weave their way through heavy lapped traffic.

The victory gave Roa two wins in three starts in Grau’s white sprint car this year.  The first triumph came at the Dirt Track in Las Vegas in late February.  All told, it was the fifth sprint car win of the 2019 campaign for the 28-year-old Garden Grove, California resident.

“I knew from running Tanner’s car at the beginning of the year, that he brings a good piece,” Roa told Dave Stall on “The Racer Radio Show” the day after the win.  “It is a quality car that will run all night, is reliable and has speed.  He does not do anything crazy.  It is always fun running with Tanner.”

Next up in the Southwest Series will be a race at Central Arizona Speedway on September 28th.  Roa will enter that race with a 32-point lead in the championship standings.  In his only appearance on that track on May 18th, Roa placed second in the main.

This week, Roa heads back to Perris Auto Speedway for the Annual Glenn Howard Memorial.  However, instead of being in his normal #91R, he will be steering the Dwight Cheney owned Racing Optics/Wilson Racing/STEELCO USA /Curb Records/Golden Harvest #42.  That will not only be his ride for Saturday night, but it will be his home for the remainder of the season in USAC/CRA competition.

Going into Saturday’s race at The PAS, Roa is third in USAC/CRA points.  He is only 10-points out of second and 68-points behind the leader.

In addition to the supporters on the #42 car, Roa would like to thank personal sponsors HD Industries, Burris Racing. “Biker” Bruce Fisher, Molecule, K-1 Race Gear, Shaver Specialties and Sander Engineering.
