Scott Bishop has been named to drive the No. 88 JR Motorsports (JRM) Chevrolet late model for five races this season. Bishop, a 24-year-old native of Spartanburg, S.C., will compete with sponsorship from TrueTimber® Camo, a product innovator of realistic camouflage patterns that offer better concealment and versatility in the outdoors.
The late-model sponsorship with Bishop marks TrueTimber’s first foray into on-track competition. JRM team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been the face of the company since he was announced last year as an equity partner in TrueTimber with partners Rusty Sellars, the founder, and Johnny Morris of Bass Pro Shops.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun watching Scott perform in the late model,” said L.W. Miller, director of motorsports for JRM. “We’re thrilled to give him and TrueTimber the opportunity to represent on track with a really fast car against some of the top late-model drivers in the country. It’s a perfect platform for TrueTimber to get into motorsports on the right foot.”
Josh Berry, who has won four times this season in late model competition with the No. 88 entry, is preparing for his two races in NASCAR Xfinity Series competition (Iowa Speedway on July 30 and Kentucky Speedway on Sept. 24) and Bishop will wheel the late model in his absence.
“I am extremely excited and thankful to the Earnhardt family and JR Motorsports for the trust and opportunity they are giving to me to drive the iconic No. 88 for their team,” Bishop said. “I’ve always wanted to be a NASCAR driver, and an opportunity with JRM is a dream come true for me and my family. There simply are no words to describe my appreciation, and my goal is to make them proud to have me as part of their racing family.”
Bishop will race in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and CARS Tour in races at Greenville-Pickens (S.C) Speedway (July 9), near TrueTimber’s home base in Inman. He’ll also compete in events at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway (July 16) and at Orange County (N.C) Speedway (July 23 and 30). His final race will take place at either Greenville-Pickens or Hickory Motor Speedway (Aug. 6).
Bishop’s driving career spans Late Models, Pro Trucks and Modifieds. He had great success in the Pro Trucks division during the annual New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedweeks in February, winning two races in 2005 and claiming the Truck title each year from 2005-2007.
Most recently, Bishop competed on a limited basis in the UARA/STARS Late Model series, finishing fifth at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway and earning a top 10 at Tennessee’s Kingsport Speedway that same season.
