Stafford 150 Post-Race Release

Justin Fontaine competed in his second K&N Pro Series East event with the Martin-McClure team racing in the Stafford 150 at Stafford Motor Speedway. Driving the No. 39 Promatic Automation Toyota Camry, Fontaine qualified 18th and finished in 20th position.

In practice, Fontaine reported the car to be tight in the center and free on exit. After adjustments were made, he reported the No. 39 to be much better. Fontaine ran his fastest lap time during practice circling the half-mile track at 19.91 seconds with a speed of 90.32 mph. Fontaine qualified in the 18th position with his fastest lap being 20.06 seconds.

In the beginning of the race, Fontaine managed to keep steady pace among the other drivers. He ran competitive lap times and got himself in position for a strong finish. Towards the end of the race, Fontaine was involved in an on track incident which caused some damage to the right front of the car causing the front end to drag. The damage proved to be too significant to continue the race with only eight laps remaining. The team decided to bring the car in, ending the race in 20th position.

Fontaine will race his third race of the season at Iowa Speedway on July 29th.

Eric McClure on Stafford 150:

“We saw improvements in Justin Fontaine this weekend in Stafford. He ran competitive lap times and was even at the same pace with the leaders. We were on track to make a solid finish when unfortunately, there was an on track accident late in the race that was unavoidable and the damage to the car proved to be to much to fix at that moment. We are looking forward to our next race with Justin at Iowa and hope to see more improvements.”

Hal Martin on Stafford 150:

“Going into our second race with Justin Fontaine, we were looking to have another solid weekend. We had good speed in the car and Justin showed good speed as a driver, but because Stafford Motor Speedway is a one grooved race track, we fought to get track position throughout the event. Unfortunately we got caught up in a late race accident and were unable to finish, but I’m pleased with Justin’s progression and look forward to our next race.”

Justin Fontaine on Stafford 150:

“Overall this weekend was a challenge. We found speed in practice and had a pace around the top 10. But qualifying was a major setback since this track is extremely tough to pass on. During the race it was extremely difficult to make up spots, however, we managed to run laps on pace with the leaders. The team did a great job staying with it and working hard to make the Promatic Toyota Camry better. We will be looking to improve at our next race in Iowa.”
