Fifteen-year-old Todd Gilliland is set to make his NASCAR K&N Pro Series West debut with Bill McAnally Racing in the Casino Arizona 100 at Phoenix International Raceway on Thursday.
Gilliland, the son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veteran David Gilliland, will be driving the No. 54 Frontline Enterprises Toyota Camry.
The third-generation driver from Sherrils Ford, North Carolina has already scored a victory in the ARCA Racing Series, winning just two days after his 15th birthday in May, and has been to Victory Lane at various tracks since he started racing late models at the age of 13.
“We are proud to have Todd under the BMR banner,” said BMR President Bill McAnally. “He is a talented young driver and we look forward to working with him.”
Gilliland will be competing in a series where his family name is well known. His father, David, won the rookie title in the series in 2004; and his grandfather, Butch, won the 1997 championship in the series, when it was known as the NASCAR Winston West Series.
“I’m excited about making my debut in the K&N Pro Series West,” Gilliland said. “I look forward to competing in the series where my father and grandfather experienced great success and I’m pleased to make my first start working with BMR.”
BMR and the Gilliland family have each experienced success at the one-mile Phoenix track. David Gilliland scored one of his four career series wins at PIR in 2005. BMR has been to Victory Lane there four times – with Austin Cameron in 2002, with Eric Holmes in 2010, with Cole Custer at the beginning of 2014, and with Nick Drake at the end of 2014.
The Casino Arizona 100 will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network, “The Voice of NASCAR.” It will be televised on NBCSN on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. ET.
Gilliland got his first race car, a quarter-midget, at the age of 3 and turned laps on a dirt track across the street from his family’s house for more than a year before his first race at the age of 5. He graduated to late model stock cars at the age of 13, racing at various tracks and in a variety of tours. In addition to his win in the ARCA Racing Series, a second start in that series this year resulted in a top-10 finish.
