Darlington’s Hal Goodson, driver of the No. 13 Florence-Darlington Technical College Super Truck won the 2015 Pee Dee Coastal Super Truck Series championship, following the final point race at Dillon Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 31, 2015.
Goodson has now won two of the three championships that have been awarded in the series’ history. His last championship came in 2013 during the inaugural season. Throughout the 2015 season, Hal Goodson amassed four wins and finished inside the top-five in every race between Dillon Motor Speedway and Myrtle Beach Speedway. Goodson even won an exhibition event at Florence Motor Speedway in late October.
“I can’t thank Florence-Darlington Technical College enough for sponsoring us this year,” Goodson said. “We fought hard all season long, and we were able to bring home five victories and a series championship. When we unloaded at Myrtle Beach Speedway back in May to kick the season off, I knew we had a fast truck. We won that race, and we rode the momentum all the way to the end of the season. You couldn’t ask for a better year!”
The partnership with the former NASCAR XFINITY Series driver was the first of its kind for Florence-Darlington Technical College. The sponsorship activation brought awareness of the college to individuals located outside of the traditional market, and it placed the Florence-Darlington Technical College brand in front of thousands, each event. Off the track, Goodson showcased his race truck at various events, including the Darlington Car Hauler Parade and Festival, as well as Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association’s Race Week Kick-Off Party.
“The partnership with Hal Goodson has been such a huge success,” said Florence-Darlington Technical College President, Dr. Ben Dillard. “Hal and his team have been great ambassadors of the college. The Pee Dee region has deep roots in stock car history, and many of our students live and breathe the sport. This venture was a great opportunity to reach that demographic and get more involved in the local culture.”
Hal Goodson’s championship this season is just one of many in his career. He’s a two-time NASCAR Slim Jim All-Pro Series champion, and he has earned one Late Model championship and five Super Truck championships at Dillon Motor Speedway.
“Hal Goodson and his team unload at the racetrack and get the job done with perfection and class,” said Florence-Darlington Technical College Public Relations and Marketing Specialist, Hunter Thomas. “That’s why they’ve won so many races. I knew when the partnership began that the team would be contenders in the championship battle. The Pee Dee Coastal Super Truck Series features a stout field of drivers, so Hal’s success this season really speaks volumes on how talented the team is.”
Florence-Darlington Technical College was also on the hood of the Pro All-Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model that’s in Goodson’s stable. He shared the ride this season with his son, Hayes Goodson, who attended summer school at the college this year. Moving forward to the 2016 season, the college hopes to continue its racing partnership with the Goodson family.
