Hagar Earns Podium During Riverside International Speedway’s Greg Hodnett Memorial

Derek Hagar posted a podium performance last Saturday at Riverside International Speedway during the 6 th annual Greg Hodnett Memorial.

“I feel like we had a good run,” he said. “The race track was looking to be good and racy and we had an unexpected rain shower right before hot laps. It made it tough to pass. We had a terrible pill draw, but we were able to capitalize on the start of the heat race.”

A run from sixth to third place in a heat race advanced Hagar into the feature redraw. He drew the No. 5 to line up on the inside of the third row in the main event.

“We got up to fourth pretty quick and maintained there,” he said. “There was a hole going into turn three that kept eating people up. Someone in front of us got into that hole and got upside down and we moved up to third. We rode around there the rest of the race. The track started going away and the car got better as the race went on, but it was too late.”

The third-place result marked Hagar’s fifth podium of the season, including his fourth straight.

Hagar will join the USCS Series this Friday at Buckshot Speedway in Clanton, Ala., and Saturday at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Ala.

“I haven’t been to Buckshot Speedway so it’s always exciting to see a new track,” he said. “East Alabama is where I got my first win. It was a special night. It was Father’s Day Weekend in 2007. I enjoy racing there.”
