NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Sunoco Rookie of the Year Heads West

NASCAR Next driver Jesse Little heads to the Golden State of California this weekend to make his second start on the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.

 

The series makes its first of two appearances this season at Kern County Raceway on Saturday night with the running of the Armed Forces 150.

 

Little, a 17-year old third-generation driver, is the reigning K&N Pro Series East Rookie of the Year where he currently sits among the top-10 in the chase for the 2014 championship. In his only prior start on the West Series Little posted a runner-up finish to fellow NASCAR Next driver, Cole Custer.

 

“I expect to be among some great drivers this weekend in Bakersfield (home of Kern Co. Raceway). The West series and its history are part of our family’s memorable racing moments as my dad (Chad Little) won the 1987 series championship and posted some great runs for his car owner George Jefferson.  My Grandfather (Chuck Little) ran several West series races in the 70’s as well.   I know our Team Little Racing entry will be stout this weekend and I can’t wait to be part of the holiday festivities at Kern County,” Little said.

 

Kern County’s half-mile may be a new tack for Little but his approach to the lightning quick oval will be the same as the last few weeks of short track racing, he noted.

 

“We’ve run Richmond and Iowa (Speedway) in our last two starts. Those tracks are larger ovals that are very fast. Kern County may be a little smaller but we know it’s one of the fastest short-tracks in the country.  We’re confident in what we’ll unload this weekend underneath our NASCAR Technical Institute Chevrolet.”

 

Saturday’s race continues a busy month of May for Little who will be competing in three races in a four-week stretch. The California race weekend will not be the last for Little’s ventures out West, he noted.

 

“We’re busy with our K&N Pro Series East schedule and we’re going to do some more races on the West series so I’m comfortable with the schedule we’ve set. Getting behind the wheel and positioning ourselves to win races is our goal each week and it’s exciting to be part of the West’s stop in Bakersfield. We’ll be back (to Bakersfield) later this year and we’re planning to run Colorado National Speedway and Phoenix later this year.”
