Wood Protects Top-10 Spot in NCTS Owners’ Standings at Charlotte - Speedway Digest

Jack Wood’s fourth appearance at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS) resulted in a 21st-place finish on Friday night. The driver of Cometic Gasket / Klotz Synthetics Chevrolet Silverado RST maintained the No. 91 team’s 10th-place position in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series (NCTS) standings with five races remaining in the regular season.

Wood began the day displaying immense pace by posting the second-fastest lap in the 20-minute practice session in the heat of the day. The Californian backed up that speed with an eighth-place qualifying effort, his second best of the year, and led the way for the MHR brigade. Wood contested with a tight condition during the race’s first stage, which ran without incident, and was scored 15th at the end of the segment on lap 30.

Crew chief Kevin Bellicourt brought Wood to pit road under the first stage caution for four tires, fuel, and a track bar adjustment. Solid pit work from the Cometic Gasket, Klotz Synthetics team allowed Wood to restart 11th on lap 38. He briefly rejoined the top 10 on lap 39 before battling another tight condition. Despite the balance issue, Wood turned in consistent laps and ran 12th at the end of Stage 2 on lap 60.

Wood restarted 12th on lap 67 and fought to maintain position inside the top-15 for the next 10 laps. A caution on lap 81 allowed Wood to make his final stop of the night and guaranteed he could reach the finish of fuel. He restarted 10th on lap 88 but continued to wrangle a tight condition. He ran 23rd when the race’s final caution flew on lap 120. Bellicourt bolted on another set of fresh tires for the nine-lap dash to the finish. Wood took the checkered flag in 22nd, but was credited with a 21st-place finish following post-race technical inspection.
