With two top-10 finishes, a fourth-place finish and a pole at Talladega, David Gilliland has no worries bringing a green-themed Ford to the Talladega Superspeedway this weekend for Sunday’s 500-mile race event. Gilliland will pilot the No. 38 Peanut Patch Boiled Peanuts Ford. This is the second time that the Margaret Holmes-brand will sponsor Front Row Motorsports this season.
Gilliland is not lost on the old tales that a green car and peanuts are bad luck to a racer. He has heard the stories of the past, but with a strong record at Talladega, has no problem carrying the Peanut Patch green colors this weekend.
“Yeah, I’ve heard how boiled peanuts and the color green are bad luck in racing,” said Gilliland. “I’ve heard all the bad stories, but I’m not scared. I love racing at Talladega and the plate races. It really gives a team like Front Row Motorsports a chance to win and be up front all day. This is a great opportunity for a sponsor like Peanut Patch to be on the car this weekend. Hopefully we can put the car up front all day on Sunday and dispel any of the old fairy tales.”
The team is looking for a good run on Sunday to help bring the team momentum into the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway where another Margaret Holmes brand, Glory Foods, will sponsor both David Ragan and Gilliland in the same race. As a part of their “Racing to Feeding America” program, if either driver wins the race Glory Foods will donate 1 million to Feeding America for child hunger. This weekend’s race can give Gilliland a lot of momentum going into the big promotion.
“It’s a really cool program during Charlotte race weekend and I think a good finish at Talladega will give us a good lift into that race,” said Gilliland. “Maybe this is a situation where having a green car and Peanut Patch Boiled Peanuts will give us the good luck that we’re looking for.”
Gilliland and the No. 38 Peanut Patch Ford will take to the track for practice this Friday. Sunday’s race is schedule to start at 2:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN.
