STANLEY Returns to Hood at Dover This Weekend

Marcos Ambrose and the No. 9 STANLEY team look to win the fight against the “Monster Mile” this weekend. The team will hit the one-mile, concrete Dover (Del.) International Speedway for practice and qualifying on Friday where they will build on the notes they have from the June event to hit the ground running on Sunday.

 

Before Ambrose lands in Delaware, Ambrose will visit our nation’s capital on Thursday for the International Pipeline and Offshore Contractors Association Convention. The Richard Petty Motorsports driver will be a guest of CRC-Evans, the industry’s largest manufacturer of specialized pipeline construction and automatic welding equipment. In 2010, CRC-Evans became a Stanley Black & Decker company.

 

This weekend, Ambrose will make his 11th start at the one-mile track. He posted his best finish of third in the spring of 2011 and tallied two other top-10 finishes in the fall of 2011 and spring of 2012. He also has five NASCAR Nationwide and truck series starts at the track. Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer has seven starts under his belt at the Dover, Del., track. In those starts, he has two top-five finished, including a best finish of third with Matt Kenseth in 2009. He also has seven Nationwide starts and tallied four top-five finishes, with a best finish of third in 2007 with Kenseth and 2010 with Carl Edwards.

“We feel a lot better about our program right now. New Hampshire was tough, but we still got better at the end of the race and we’ve been doing that a lot lately. I like the direction we’re going in. Our STANLEY team has gotten better with the new Gen-6 car and how it handles. I feel we should be pretty good this weekend and better than what we were in June.

 

“This is a very difficult track, and one of the longest 400 mile races that we race. It will be important to keep focused and really work the race track. This kind of track really plays into my strengths. You really have to fight the track, but at the same time, make sure you can make it to the end. You need to be aggressive, but smart at the same time. It’s a lot like Bristol where things happen fast. I feel pretty good about this weekend.

 

“This week will be pretty fun. We’re heading to Washington, D.C. to help out with CRC-Evans as a guest at one of their big conventions. It’s really cool that we get to go to the nation’s capital and spend time there. It’s actually going to be my first time that I’ll get to visit D.C. It will also be a great way to kick off the weekend.”

“Dover is really different from anywhere we go. It’s really hard on the cars and the driver. We’ll do our best to improve from the last race here in June. We have made some big gains over the summer, and it has shown on the track. We’ll work to get Marcos a good setup at the end of the race and then fight to get a good finish.”
