Bowles on the way to another strong run at Iowa before brake issue

Jason Bowles and his American Majority No. 81 Toyota team were well on their way to another top-15 finish Saturday night in the US Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway.  After starting 22nd, Bowles had worked his way to 15th place by lap 100 and was looking for more.  Unfortunately, his MacDonald Motorsports No. 81 lost the brakes a few laps later, sending him to the pits.  The team worked extremely hard to get back in the race and were still able to salvage a 29th place finish.

“We had a really fast car for the first 100 laps and Jason was moving up nicely,” explained crew chief John Monsam.  “The brake issue was definitely unexpected but I’m very proud of the way the guys got the issue resolved.

The American Majority No. 81 Toyota was a little loose at the start but the car had a lot of speed in it.  Picking off the cars one-by-one, Jason was happy with the car and ready to challenge for a possible top-10 finish.

“It would have been great to race for a top-10 like I think we may have but we’ll look ahead to the road courses we have coming up,” said Monsam.  “Jason’s a great road racer so the whole team is pretty excited about the next two weeks.”

The American Majority No. 81 team heads to Watkins Glen next weekend for the second road race of the season.  Fans can watch the Zippo 200 at the Glen Saturday, August 11th at 2PM EST on ABC.
