TriStar Pictures/Film District’s Feature Film “Soul Surfer” Partner’s with Blake Koch in California

Soul Surfer” the Movie will be partnering with Blake Koch and the MacDonald Motorsports No. 81 team this weekend at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA.  “Soul Surfer” is the inspiring true story of Bethany Hamilton, a young surfer who lost her arm to a shark attack at age 13.  Bethany didn’t quit there and four years later, realized her dream of becoming a professional surfer in 2007.  The movie stars Anna Sophia Robb as Bethany, as well as Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid, Lorraine Nicholson, and Carrie Underwood.

“I’m really honored and excited to promote this faith-based film to the NASCAR community.”

– Blake Koch.

The MacDonald Motorsports No. 81 currently sits 30th in the owners standings heading into the California race.  This will mark the 5th race on the season and starting in two weeks in Texas, points will count from this season.  That means this weekend will be very important for the “Soul Surfer” No. 81 team to have a strong run and remain inside the top-30.

Blake will be behind the wheel of the MacDonald Motorsports No. 81 Dodge for the third time this season at Auto Club Speedway.  This will be the largest track that Blake has ever competed on and allow him to be able to race at Talladega and Daytona later this season.  Blake has been racing in the state of California for the past two seasons driving in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West division.  He should have a loyal following of fans at the racetrack that watched his career advance and will be cheering him on in his chase to become 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year.

Blake currently sits 29th in the drivers’ standings and 3rd in the Rookie of the Year chase.  He is just 15 points behind Ryan Truex and looks to close that gap this weekend.

“I am looking forward to California.  I have raced out west a lot over the last couple years and it’s cool to go back and race at Auto Club Speedway.  Looking forward to the Finish a Winner event on Thursday and running well in the race for my sponsors Soul Surfer and Daystar!” – Blake Koch

The film is an adaptation of the book, Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board, written by Beth herself. The “Soul Surfer” movie will make it’s highly anticipated release into theaters on April 8th.
