Green Posts a 17th-place Finish at Michigan Int’l Speedway

After a one-week hiatus from NASCAR Nationwide Series competition, Jeff Green and the No. 14 Hefty®/Reynolds Wrap® team headed to the Irish Hills of Michigan looking to continue their forward progression in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Owner standings.  After posting the 22nd quickest speed in time trials, Green was able to finish the 250-mile event in the 17th position.  With this finish Mark Smith, owner of TriStar Motorsports, advanced one position (27th) in NASCAR Owner standings.

When the 125-lap race began, Green immediately informed the crew that his car was tight on the exit of turn two, as well as loose on the entrance of turn three.  A competition caution on lap 25 allowed the patriotic red, white & and blue-themed machine to visit pit road for four tires, air pressure and track-bar adjustments, and fuel.  After a quick stop, Green was scored in the 17th position when the race resumed on lap 30.

As the race continued, Green slipped to the 20th position as he continued to battle a car that was loose on the entry of turn three.  A caution on lap 48 allowed the Wes-Ward led crew to change four tires, add fuel, and make a chassis adjustment to improve the car’s handling.  When the race resumed on lap 57, Green was scored in the 16th position, where he remained through the halfway point of the race.

Under the event’s longest green flag run, the loose-handling condition on the No. 14 Camry persisted, causing the Owensboro, KY native to once again fall to the 20th position.  Green flag pit stops began on lap 87 with the No. 14 Hefty®/Reynolds Wrap® Camry hitting pit road on lap 88.  Following the routine pit stop, Green returned to the track in the 25th position, one lap down to the race leader.

With the laps winding down, the event’s final caution flag waved on lap 118.  Scored in the 19th position, Green received the “lucky dog” award, placing him back on the lead lap with just seven laps remaining in the event.  In the end, he advanced two positions to finish 17th in Saturday’s Alliance Truck Parts 250 at Michigan Int’l Speedway.
