“It was just a wild day. We had a great No. 2 Roland Chevrolet. The day started off great, and we were doing what we needed to do as a team. I had a hiccup on pit road, and we lost a couple of spots. We had a speeding penalty – along with the No. 10. I think Ross (Chastain) and those guys maybe missed their speed limit a little bit and he was pushing me down pit road. I tried to slow us both down, but we were hit with the penalty, which put us in the back. I don’t know what happened with the contact with the wall. I like to run by the wall, and I just ran into it. I don’t understand it. The place I hit, it has a plate on the wall or they have a gate there and that really left a mark on the right side of our car. It was coming apart there at the end of the second stage, but fortunately we were able to earn points at the end of the stage and then we were able to fix it. The day kept getting crazier. As we were working on the car, it took us longer than planned to repair the damage. When we came out, we were way behind the leaders and almost went a lap down but the caution came out and that saved us and put us right back in the mix. It wasn’t easy to hold those guys off at the end, but my spotter Derek Kneeland did a great job on the stand guiding me throughout the whole race, but especially in those closing laps. I’m really proud to deliver RCR’s first NASCAR Xfinity Series win at Talladega. I hate that Richard Childress wasn’t here, but I was able to talk to him on the phone in Victory Lane. Oh, and to win the Xfinity Racing Dash 4 Cash bonus and qualify for the next round at Dover was an added bonus. We finally got the monkey off our back and got into Victory Lane. Hopefully, we can get a few more as the year goes on.”
