Broken Rotor Derails Dylan Lupton in Monster Mile Debut

After a strong 2017 debut with JGL Racing, Dylan Lupton had a high level of excitement as he returned for his second start of the 2017 NASCAR XFINITY Series season at Dover International Speedway.  Unfortunately, the Wilton, California native had his Monster Mile debut derailed with a broken rotor on his No. 24 Nut Up Toyota early in the running of the OneMain Financial 200 which relegated him to a disappointing 30th place finish.

“That wasn’t exactly how we wanted things to go but I learned a ton,” stated Lupton.  “We had a right front brake rotor just explode on us there early in the race.  The guys on this JGL Racing team worked hard and quickly got us back out on the track.  That allowed me to log some valuable laps to not only learn this track but also to work further with my new team here at JGL Racing.”

Dylan would start the 200-lap event from the 21st position as a result of his qualifying effort earlier Saturday morning.  After spending the two practice sessions to learn his way around the Monster Mile, Lupton clicked on something during qualifying and posted the 13th quickest time in the first round of qualifying which set high hopes for the race.

Once the green flag flew, Lupton would quickly report to his JGL Racing crew that his No. 24 Nut Up Toyota was just way too loose.  Dylan would take care of his car before coming down pit road for needed adjustments under caution on lap 28.  The No. 24 Nut Up Toyota would continue to experience the loose condition as the first stage drew near conclusion.  However, disaster struck on lap 52 when a right front rotor exploded sending Lupton to the garage for repairs.

After the JGL Racing team completed the necessary repairs, Dylan and the No. 24 Nut Up Toyota would return to the track but many laps down.  Lupton would utilize the remainder of the event to gain valuable laps around the Monster Mile along with priceless experience with his new JGL Racing team.  Although the 30th place finish was not the desire result, the quick lap times at the end of the race generated high hopes moving forward for both driver and team.

“I wish we could have kept running there at the end – I didn’t want the race to end,” added Dylan.   “Our No. 24 Nut Up Toyota was solid after the repairs and the driver was just getting better and better with each lap.  I can’t wait to get to Pocono and get back behind the wheel of this No. 24 Nut Up Toyota.”

Dylan Lupton and the JGL Racing team will next head to Pocono Raceway for the running of the Pocono Green 250.  The 12th race of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season will be Saturday June 10th and can be seen LIVE on FOX at 1:00 pm ET.  It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90.
