Keselowski Wins Pole at Texas over Jones on Tiebreaker

Yes, you read that right.

Brad Keselowski will lead the field to the green flag in today’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge (3:30 p.m. ET on NBC). But a Chase contender, Erik Jones, ran the exact same lap time as the No. 22 in the final round of qualifying at Texas Motor Speedway.

With a speed of 186.909 mph (28.891 seconds), Jones and Keselowski tied for the pole, but the 2012 Sprint Cup champion was awarded the tpop spot based off owner points in the Xfinity Series due to the No. 22 being ahead of the No. 20 for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Jones’ JGR teammates Matt Tifft and Daniel Suarez will roll off third and fourth respectively, with Kyle Larson rounding out the top five. Justin Allgaier, Austin Dillon, Elliott Sadler, Kevin Harvick and Brennan Poole will round out the top ten positions as well.

Other Xfinity Series Chasers that qualified outside the top ten included Blake Koch (12th), Ryan Reed (13th), Brendan Gaughan (16th) and Darrell Wallace Jr. (18th).

The O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge can be seen on NBC at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcasted on PRN Radio and Sirius XM. The race consist of 300 miles and 200 laps around the 1.5-mile quad-oval located in the Lone Star State.
