Yeley Powers an 8th Place Finish at The Monster Mile

Despite rain causing an extended weekend for the NASCAR XFINITY Series, JJ Yeley, driver of the No. 44 Zachry Toyota brings home an 8th place finish for the Drive Sober 200 at Dover International Speedway.

JJ Yeley qualified the No. 44 Zachry Toyota 25th to start the 200-lap event. The Drive Sober 200 started as scheduled on Saturday but only after a few laps, rain set in causing NASCAR to postpone the race until Sunday morning.

Rain started the day but cleared in time for cars to roll off the grid as scheduled on Sunday morning. There was an immediate caution on lap one and returned to green flag racing on lap 10. By lap 22, Yeley had advanced to 15th and relayed the Zachry Toyota was “a little loose on entry, tight in the center and loose in exit.” Another caution on lap 33, deemed as the Competition Caution, Yeley pitted for fresh tires, wedge adjustment and fuel; recycling back into the field 21st for the restart. As the race progressed, Yeley continued to fight a loose handling condition and said the car was inconsistent causing him to fall back several positions. After a long green flag run, the lead cars began to pit and Crew Chief Frank Kerr opted to keep Yeley out allowing him to advance into the top-10 on the leaderboard; as high as 4th. Soon thereafter, a timely caution allowed Yeley the opportunity to pit for tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment, sending him back out to restart 6th. Despite battling a loose condition, Yeley held on and maintained his positioning for the final laps.  He ultimately took the checkers 8th to conclude the day at Dover International Speedway and secured his second top-10 finish of the season.
Yeley:  “An extended wait for a great finish. The Zachry Toyota had really good speed in both practice sessions but the balance of the car wasn’t what I needed for qualifying. When the race started, I was able to pass a few cars quickly but the handling seemed to go away after a few laps. I really fought loose a majority of the day especially later into a fuel run. Frankie was able to get the car close enough at the end to get me the speed I needed for a great top-10 effort. I’m so proud of all of my Zachry TriStar Motorsports guy, the pit crew was great today. We just kept fighting, caught a few lucky breaks and persevered to another great finish!”
