Garrett Smithley scored a 22nd-place finish Saturday in his debut race at Darlington Raceway.
Smithley started the VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero 200 in 23rd position and battled through a tough afternoon to stay 18th in Xfinity driver points.
“Wow, what a race track,” Smithley said. “It was everything I’ve heard and much more. There’s no time to relax. You have to stay on your toes every second dealing with traffic and the tight turns.”
The run was Smithley’s best in the past five Xfinity races.
