Chastain looking for more at Darlington

Ross Chastain turned his first appearance at Darlington Raceway last season into a big day.

Chastain finished 10th in Darlington’s Xfinity Series race last year, giving him optimism as the tour heads to the track for Saturday’s VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero 200.

“I had a great time at Darlington last year, and we’re looking forward to going back,” Chastain said. “It’s a tough old track, but if you have a good car and you pay attention, you can get around there pretty quick. We’re looking for a strong run in the special No. 4 Chevy this week.”

As part of the track’s “throwback” weekend, the 4 on Chastain’s South Carolina Education Lottery Chevrolet will be similar to the style number raced by Joe Henry Thurman, one of team owner Johnny Davis’ first drivers. A national Sportsman champion from Rocky Mount, Va., Thurman raced for Davis in the early 1980s.

Chastain sits 15th in Xfinity points entering the Darlington weekend.
